Welcome to the Arise Unit website! My name is Alyssa Jayne and I am a proud Premier Club Sales Director with Mary Kay. It's crazy to say, because I never thought I'd be where I am today, doing Mary Kay as my full-time career and earning 2 free cars in 1 year. Here is the story of my Mary Kay journey.
Let's start prior to Mary Kay. From the University of Valley Forge, I received my Bachelor's Degree in Psychology. My passion has always been helping people in need; beyond that, I had no idea what my purpose was. I worked with children of all ages and many with special needs and learning disabilities through and after college. It was rewarding but unfulfilling. Thankfully, in college, I met my husband Stephen. Since we've met, he has encouraged me, supported me, and pushed me to reach my potential and go after my dreams. I couldn't ask for a better partner, support system, or friend.
When Mary Kay found me I had just recently moved to Pennsylvania from New York and was working as a Full Time Account Manager for an insurance company. I liked the stability, security, and financial benefits that came with this job. I know few people truly passionate about insurance. I am not one of them. Though I wore many hats and promoted myself quickly, the "promotions" came with more pressure and less appreciation.
A girlfriend of mine invited me to join her for a free facial she had won from a family member. It sounded great! A day before the facial, I had a huge break out. To be honest, I almost cancelled on her. However, the consultant reached out to tell me how excited she was that I was joining my friend and asked me all about my skin concerns and preferences. I felt awful bailing on this professional woman preparing for me. So, I went. There, I was introduced to the products. I have extremely sensitive skin, so I was leery about putting new products on my skin. I left having fallen in love with the products and was intrigued by the idea of products at a discount and extra cash.
A few days later, I found myself saying "yes" to attending a makeover event. I sat next to a successful business women who told me all about earning free cars, diamond rings, cash, flexibility, and paying off debt. Flexibility sounded great! My husband and I were like passing ships with our working hours. I was looking for something productive to fill my time from 5 to 11 when I got home from work, while waiting for Stephen to get home. I had no desire to pick up a traditional part time job on the side. This sounded more my speed. So, on June 27, 2015, I decided 100 bucks didn't seem so bad if I could get a little something out of it. I figured.. "My grandma will at least buy something from me."
In a few months, I was bringing in additional income and had even promoted myself to what we consider a "management" position. What I loved most, though, was the community of women I started to connect with every single week. I had found the type of people I wanted to surround myself with: goal-driven, supportive, uplifting, hardworking godly women. While working part time, on the side of my insurance job, I had even gone on target to earn my first free car! Crazy, right?!
Well, in April of 2016, a lot of changes in my life came into play. We found out my grandfather had cancer, Stephen's grandfather was in the hospital, my mother's health was concerning, and my old car was getting worse and more expensive to fix. On a Friday afternoon, April 22, my boss called me into the conference room for a meeting. Another lead agent was there as well which I thought was odd. In a less than 5 minute conversation, he thanked me for all I had done for the agency, how much he "appreciated" me, and that I was being laid off. That night, I had a double-facial scheduled. On my hour and a half long drive, I had a full-on panic attached, and called my Director, Caitlin Griffo. Through uncontrollable sobbing, we made an action plan. I could wallow in my less than convenience circumstances, or do something about it. There, I claimed I would walk across stage as Caitlin's offspring director and claimed my ultimate goal of being a National.
That weekend, I recruited 2 new qualified team members and by May 1st (a week after being laid off) I submitted for DIQ! A few short weeks later, my '99 Honda Civic died on me. My husband and I began the oh-so-exciting journey of sharing a car until my Chevy Cruze (that I had just earned) arrived. Let me tell you something about this company... there are some of the most giving and kind women with the title of Beauty Consultant. While in DIQ, sharing a car with Stephen, Caitlin's Fearless Lobsters had just earned the PINK CADILLAC! Because of this, Caitlin was no longer using her car that she owned. Before selling it, I drove her car until my brand new 2017 White Chevy Cruze was brought to my dealership. Saying that I have a lot to be thankful for... is an understatement.
July of 2016 rolled around and believe it or not, I was "not attending seminar" (picture me using airquotes). I was "jobless" and working to finish DIQ by the end of August. With a necessary push, I flew my butt to my first Seminar. You better believe I cried the ENTIRE time. I watched new Directors holding hands with their Senior Directors. I watched new Nationals give all her thanks to God, family, and her Directions. I believed without a shadow of a doubt, this was the community I belonged to, and the stories I heard was the life I deserved. On September 1st, 2016, at 1 am I debuted as a brand new Sales Director! I became the first Offspring Sales Director of Pink Cadillac Senior Sales Director, Caitlin Griffo. What. an. honor. The Arise Unit was born! A lot of you may not even know where "Arise" came from. My late aunt Reverend Laurie Jayne was a faith-filled, God-fearing, planet-shaking woman of God. To know her was to know God's love. She spoke on a passage of Scripture in Mark 5 about a little girl who was presumably dead and Jesus raising her to life. In verse 41, Jesus took the girl's hand and said "Talitha Cumi" which means, "little girl, I say to you, arise". What a powerful way to start a journey. We have the opportunity to bring life to our finances, circumstances, health, family, and dreams. I am honored to be a part of a rising group of entrepreneurs, leaders, goal-achievers, and world-changers!
On June 30th, the Arise Unit finished up our 2ND FREE CARin 1 year, the prestigious Chevy Equinox! I am blown away by the amount of changes that happened in just one year. One year prior I was scraping to make it to seminar. One year prior I was car-less and jobless. THIS YEAR we are on our second free car and heading toward CADILLAC!
Thanks for reading and joining us on this journey! Keep watching for this Premier Club Unit turn PINK!
